Dinny Ward Tjakamarra est né le 15 décembre 1985 à Kiwirrkurra dans le désert central d’Australie.

Dinny est le fils de Lorna ward Napanangka. Il réside entre Kiwirrkura, sa région natale et Alice Springs. Lorna Ward est une artiste très côtée en Australie et connue pour sa ténacité, ce dont Dinny a hérité. Il est très charismatique et raconte souvent des histoire liées à la vie dans le désert et sur la chasse.

Family History:  Dinny is the son of Lorna Ward Napanangka. Dinny now resides in both Kiwirrkurra and Alice Springs. Lorna, Dinny’s mother, is a well established Western Desert artist, known for her tenacious personality which Dinny has inherited too. He is very charismatic and will often tell stories of living out bush and going hunting.

Dinny is also the grandchild of the late Timmy Payungka Tjapangati, among the first of the Pintupi people to be relocated to the new settlement at Papunya. Timmy Payungka was a founding member of the Papunya Tula Art Centre in the early 1970’s.

 

Dreamings: Dinny began painting for a more than ten years ago, around 2003 and has been highly influenced by his strong traditional painting lineage. Dinny has inherited stories from his Grandfather and Mother and Farther’s country which lies to the far west of Wilkinkarra (Lake MacKay) W.A. He paints traditional Tingari designs which depict both ceremonial sites and the topography of his country. He often talks of the clay pans full of water after rains, rock holes and sand hills.
