Narpula Scobie Napurrula

Narpula Scobie Napurrula est née en 1957 environ. Elle migra à l’est de Haasts Bluff avant de s’installer à Papunya avec sa famille dans les années 1960. Narpula est la sœur de Turkey Tolson Tjupurrula et elle fut mariée à Johny Scobie Tjapanangka maintenant décédé.

Elle commença à peindre pour la Papunya Tula Artists dans les années 1980, probablement influencée par son frère Turkey Tolson Tjupurrula. Elle fut parmi les premières femmes à peindre à temps complet. Ses oeuvres décrivent les traditionnels aliments du Bush et les symboles relatent les cérémonies des femmes. Narpula vit actuellement au Mont Liebig avec sa famille.

Artist Name:   Narpula Scobie Napurrula

D.O.B: c. 1957

Birthplace: N.T. Haast’s Bluff area, 250 km west of Alice Springs.

Language Group: Pintupi/ Lurritja

Family History:  Narpula grew up in the west of Haast Bluff, before moving to Papunya with her family in the 1960s. She is the sister of Turkey Tolson Tjupurrula and was the wife of Johnny Scobie Tjapanangka (now deceased).

Dreamings: Narpula began painting for Papunya Tula Artists in the early 1980s, probably influenced by her brother, Turkey Tolson Tjupurrula, she was one of the few women to do so at the time. She paints depictions of traditional bush foods and designs that relate to women’s ceremony. Narpula now lives at Mt Liebig with her family.
